I'm taking part in Bandanna Day to stand up to cancer!
Iβm taking part in Canteenβs Bandanna Day and colouring my hair red this year to support young people when cancer crashes into their world.!
My name isΒ Β Sammy Capiron (Samantha) and here is my story.
Past years have been very difficult suffering from my diagnosis of A.L.L Leukaemia.Β Β Also still here is another reason why I know canteen and want to help any cancer foundation!Β
At age two and a half I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in September 2006. After battling this blood cancer for several years, I was finally given the opportunity to beat it by a lifesaving treatment called Stem Cell Bone Marrow Transplant (SCBMT). This occurred in December 2009 and with heartfelt gratitude to the anonymous donor who gave me his stem cells from his bone marrow, I finally was cured of cancer. I was well for a while but unfortunately, I received a rare complication from the transplant called Sclerodermatous Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease (SCGVHD). After several more years of hospital treatment and having travelled interstate for experimental treatment, to obtain a cure for SCGVHD, I began to recover slowly.
Whilst I still have some disabling symptoms that limit my physical ability from the SCGVHD, I am thankful to my family and extended support network of friends who have supported me through such a difficult period in my life. And to my older brother who was always there after school playing on the hospital playstation 2 with me haha. As dad dropped you off at the hospital when I was with mum.Β
My memory not being so well- dad was there taking care of me at night when he did shifts with mum after work.
I am now 19 and physically well, working at my dream job at Eb Games Aus at the Headquarters with my partner.
I would like to thank the Leukemia Foundation in particular CANTEEN, for their ongoing support.
CANTEEN has been there for many months after I graduated from school, and they were there to help me find a job and working around the issues of my disabilities from my post cancer diagnosis.
Thank you to the two young ladies who have helped from CANTEEN, for getting me to where I am today
My mum and I always have back to Queensland hospital foundation and also Melbourne in no matter shape or form. It was a special experience and I still want to continue that somehow in my own hands.
I would encourage everyone to support this noble cause as I raise funds for the many young people who still battle with cancer and to show my personal appreciation for my life.

Well done sweetheart for putting yourself out there and aiming high for such a noble cause. Remember that it is not so much about reaching that target or that goal, it is more about you GIVING with your heart, a sacrifice of time, effort and love to make a positive difference to other people's lives.
