I'm taking part in Bandanna Day to stand up to cancer!

My name is Chloe Posadas and I am taking part in Canteen’s Bandanna Day this year to support young people when cancer crashes into their world.

Cancer has impacted my family on both sides, and earlier this year, my beautiful friend Tara passed away after being diagnosed in 2019 with Epithelioid Sarcoma. Tara was far too remarkable for this world, so she now rests in Neverland, watching over her kind family, and selfless friends.

Canteen is the game changer. They help young people cope with cancer in their family, rebuild their foundations and connect with others in the same boat.

Please help me to reach my goal and together we can take a stand for young people affected by cancer.

So with a charity close to my heart, and Tara looking down upon me, I will be fundraising and cutting my hair to support this cause.

Thank you for your love and support!

Love Chloe x

My Updates

Why am I doing this fundraiser?

Saturday 11th Sep
My motivation to participate in this fundraiser is my beautiful friend, Tara Neilsen.
Tara and I met in 2019 when we both started at St Mary's Senior High School. We had a bunch of classes together, and some free periods together which were often spent with Tara culturing me about all things drama, musical theatre, Taylor Swift and sharing our love for the band 5 Seconds of Summer. She had a passion for performing and her talent was truly a gift.
Throughout year 11, Tara experienced extreme pains in her arm, which was originally diagnosed as tendonitis. Overtime, her pain worsened and eventually she had to undergo various tests and procedures, all despite her fear of needles. Eventually, a lump was detected in her elbow, which was later diagnosed at Epithelioid Sarcoma, a rare, slow growing type of soft tissue cancer. She underwent radiation while constantly persevering and continuing to do the things that were important to her, such as drama performances, school work and spending time at the theatre wherever possible. Tara was always studious, hard working, determined, bright and kind despite the challenges she was faced with.
As 2020 rolled around and we tumbled into the intense world that was year 12, combined with the impacts of COVID-19, Tara's lung collapsed. She spent lots of time in and out of hospital, then had more tests, scans and procedures, Eventually, this revelled that the cancer had spread to her lungs. Determined as always, she sat some of her trial HSC exams before her lung collapsed for the second time. Weeks later, Tara began chemotherapy and despite the rollercoaster of cancer, her brightness never dimmed. She was constantly radiating kindness, positivity and warmth through everything.
We graduated at the end of 2020, and Tara had graduated with multiple early entries to various universities and was named as a distinguished achiever for her HSC results, despite the impacts cancer had on her final school years. Tara was always a force to be reckoned with.
During Christmas and New Year's Eve of 2020, Tara celebrated her milestones and the challenges she had overcome, but unfortunately it was revealed that her chemo wasn't working.
In January of 2021, she was experiencing deliberating migraines that would last days, and excruciating neck pain that radiated in her head and neck. The cancer had spread to her brain, and was spreading aggressively. Despite this, Tara, determined and strong as always, started her dream university course, a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education in Drama and English at University of Sydney.
Meetings with doctors revealed Tara would have roughly a year of her life left. Four weeks later, Tara passed away, a month before her 18th birthday.
Tara was intelligent, warmhearted, generous, selfless and was constantly radiating kindness. She was determined to give everything her absolute all, and poured her heart and soul into all her projects. She was inspiring, strong, courageous and I have never met anyone as brave as her.

Throughout her battle with cancer, Canteen provided immense counselling support and helped her connect with others on the same journey. Tara was a part of the Canteen leadership team, which saw her advocating for Canteen.
I know how much she valued this organisation and appreciated their support during her cancer journey, and the treatments she received. I want to support Canteen as I know the service provides essential, care, comfort and support to teenagers and their families suffering from cancer. I know how much Canteen meant to Tara, but most of all I am doing it in honour of Tara.
